August 2019 Client Spotlight
We are proud to say that we have simply amazing people in our family of clients. Each month we take time out to shine a spotlight on our clients’ accomplishments, passions and experiences.
Please meet Luz Rodriguez Lennon, and her father and step mother, Jose and Gloria Rodriguez. Jose and Gloria Rodriguez were married September 13, 1984. They lived in Pembroke Pines, Florida. My father was a retired plant nursery owner and my step mother was a retired eye glass technician.
My father, Jose, had 6 children from previous marriages and Gloria had 1 daughter. Only my step sister and I lived with them.
My father was the owner of a successful plant nursery business for over 20 years. My step mother managed to retire after 30 years from an optical company. Despite my father’s lack of formal education, he managed to successfully own and run his own plant nursery. My step mother was a devote catholic and was a member of her parish for over 50 years.
In 2013 my step mother started exhibiting signs of mental decline. It was then that I assumed the care of both her and my father. My father was taught how to be a caregiver for my step mother, and for 3 long years he did his best to take care of her in their home until it became too difficult. At this point I turned to elder law attorneys while in south Florida, where I obtained Plenary Guardianship and eventually transferred her matter to The Elder Law Center of Kirson & Fuller, for which I am so grateful. I was very happy we were with a group who took on their case and held my hand throughout this very difficult time. I had to now make decisions for my step mother and my father. I wanted to make sure my step mother was taken care of properly while being mindful of my father’s wishes. Thanks to The Elder Law Center of Kirson and Fuller they helped put all this into perspective. They listened to my concerns and together they were able to facilitate Medicaid applications, placement, and appropriate documentation for guardianship. I will forever be grateful for the kindness and will make sure I recommend them to everyone.
We want to thank Luz for her kind words and continued trust in our firm. To show our appreciation for her trust in us, we have made a donation in Jose and Gloria’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association.
