December Client Spotlight

December 1, 2021 in News

We are proud to say we have simply amazing people in our family of Clients. Each month we take time out to shine a spotlight on our clients’ accomplishments, passions, and experiences. Please meet Joseph and Paula Gurney.

Joseph Gurney was born in Brooklyn NY and Paula Gurney was born in Absecon NJ. Paula and Joe met in the third grade in Elmont NY and became friends and then high school sweethearts. After graduating High School in 1953 Paula and Joe got engaged and married in 1954.

Once married, Paula and Joe moved into a home in Elmont NY and started their family. Over the years, Paula stayed home to raise their three children while Joe worked full time in the auto parts business. After many years of hard work and sacrifice, Joe saved up enough money to buy his own auto parts business on long Island. Also, during these years, Joe dedicated what little free time he had, and was a volunteer fireman in Elmont NY.

In 1970, Joe became one of the youngest Chiefs of the Elmont Fire Department. After serving as Chief, Paula and Joe moved the family to Commack NY where again, Joe joined the Commack Fire Department and continued to run his auto parts and Goodyear tire store. For the second time in his fire department career, Joe became Chief of the Commack Fire Department and then Commissioner of the Commack Fire District.

After many long years as a business owner and firemen, Joe sold his business in 2004 and retired to Florida with Paula. During his retirement, Paula and Joe have travelled around the country in their motor home and enjoyed time with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

It has been our pleasure at the Elder Law Center of Kirson & Fuller to assist Edwin and Carrie Norris with their elder law needs. As an expression of our appreciation, the firm will donate $100.00 to the Tunnels 2 Towers Foundation.
