June 2018 Spotlight Client

We are happy and proud to say that we have simply amazing people in our family of clients. That is why each month we take time out to shine a spotlight on our client’s accomplishments, passions and heritages.

Please help us recognize, William E. Coates, as our Spotlight Client for June 2018. Bill was born on October 5th, 1924 to Charles W. Coates and Jennie McGurney- Coates, in the small rural farming town of Woodstown, New Jersey. Bill grew up on the farm in New Jersey, and after the passing of his mother, Bill went to live with his Aunt and Uncle in Chester, PA.

In January 1943 Bill enlisted in the Navy and was trained in the operation of ship communication equipment in Sampson, N.Y. Upon completion of his training, Bill was assigned to the Destroyer Escort the USS Thomason, where Bill operated the hips radio in the South Pacific during WWII. Bill earned 3 stars for his service in the Pacific Theater and 1 star for hi service in the Liberation of the Philippines. Bill was discharged on February 9, 1946. In 1947, Bill began his career with the Philadelphia Electric Company in Chester, PA.

In 1950, Bill married the girl of his dreams, Elizabeth Slesicki, of Chester, PA. Bill and Betty subsequently bought a home, settled down and had three children, Claire, Joan and William Jr.

Bill retired from his job with PECO in June of 1986, after 39 years working in maintenance. Bill;s oldest daughter, Claire passed away in 1986 from complications of Multiple Sclerosis and his beloved wife, Betty, passed away in 2007 from Mesothelioma.

In 2015, Bill began a new chapter in his life when he moved to Florida to live with his daughter Joan and her husband Tom. Bill, Joan and Tom now reside in Leesburg, FL.

It has been a privilege to be able to serve Mr. Coates. To show our appreciation for his trust in us, we made a $100 donation to an organization important to him, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
