June 2, 2020 in News

Robert (Bob) Hare was born on the US Virgin Island, St. Thomas in 1939. When he was 10, his parents moved him and his siblings to Puerto Rico, to live on the US Navy Base – Roosevelt Rose. Bob was the 1st (and only) Senior in his class when he graduated from Roosevelt Rose High School. His childhood is full of adventures on the Islands with the other Navy kids, playing golf, riding horses, and swimming in the ocean.

After high school, he attended the University of Maryland for one semester before joining the Air Force. While in the Air Force, he served as a Crew Chief Flight Engineer for the KC135, refueling tankers. In 1963, he was honorably discharged from his service and joined the reserve for 2 years. He then moved to Orlando, FL. During this time, he worked toward his life passion – playing golf. He was an assistant professional at Rolling Hills Country Club, and teaching professional at the Edgewater Driving Range.

In 1966, he was offered an Assistant Golf Pro position at the Danville Country Club, in Danville, Illinois. Four years later, the Elks Club built a new golf course in Danville, and he was offered the Head Golf Pro position, which he accepted. He was the Pro from 1970-1982.  After “retiring” from golf, he transitioned into insurance sales for Prudential Insurance. He worked for Prudential for 18 years. In 2000, he moved to Deltona, FL and has been enjoying retirement ever since.

While in Danville, IL, he was married and had two children, a son and daughter. He claims his kids are his greatest accomplishments in life. His daughter, son-in-law, and two grandchildren currently live in Orlando, FL. His son and daughter-in-law currently reside in Columbus, IN. His current passion is watching the Golf Channel and being a dad and grandfather to his children and grandchildren.
