March 2018 Spotlight Client
It is our pleasure to announce, Diane O’Brien, as our Spotlight Client for March 2018. Diane came to us after her husband, Frank, had suffered a severe stroke. Following initial hospitalization he was transferred to a skilled nursing center.
Diane quickly learned of the enormous expense of nursing home care and knew she was in need of advice on how to best prepare for the challenges ahead. She sought the advice of their longtime friend and personal attorney, who referred Diane to The Elder Law Center of Kirson & Fuller.
Frank and Diane are both originally from Indiana and have loved calling Winter Park their home for many years now. Diane was an elementary school teacher and later became a stay at home mom. She has always been very involved in community service and very much enjoyed being part of the Winter Park Memorial Hospital’s “Partners in Progress” group which entailed major fundraising for the creation of the current Winter Park Cancer Center, and, secondly, “Reach for Recovery”, an off shoot of the American Cancer Society for the benefit of women who have been recently diagnosed with breast cancer.
Frank enjoyed a successful career in residential housing and fulfilled his long held dream by starting his own custom building company, O’Brien Builders. He built many lovely homes in Orange and Seminole county. In Frank’s spare time he loved to golf and those were some of his most cherished hours. He was a committed volunteer for the Kairos Prison Ministry and an active volunteer, right up to the week before his stroke, with Hospice of the Comforter.
Both Frank and Diane were big college football and basketball fans. They also enjoyed traveling and had many wonderful trips.
Frank was unable to recover from his stroke and passed away on December 21, 2017. He will be greatly missed.
It has been a privilege to be able to serve Diane. To show our appreciation for her trust in us, we have made a $100 donation to an organization important to her, St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Thank you, Diane, for all your kind words, and for always being a pleasure to work with.
